Dr Douglas Maclean is a local Orthopaedic Surgeon with a particular interest in hip, knee and shoulder conditions. He has been working and raising his young family on the Sunshine Coast for almost 15 years.
In the more than 20 years he has been involved in orthopaedic surgery, Dr Maclean has enjoyed the evolution of orthopaedic surgical practice, and has applied the advantages of newer techniques and technologies in his clinical practice.
His efforts to improve outcomes for Sunshine Coast patients have included the introduction of Minimally Invasive, Rapid Recovery Anterior Approach Hip Replacement and the technically demanding field of Hip Arthroscopy Surgery.
One of the latest developments Dr Maclean is able to offer is Robotic Assisted Knee Replacement Surgery. This impressive technology assists in ensuring precision and accuracy in developing and implementing an individualised surgical plan aimed to improve recovery and provide a more natural feeling to the knee replacement.
Dr Maclean offers a Rapid Assessment Sports Injury Clinic to ensure timely review and appropriate initial management of acute injuries. Urgent review appointments are allocated each week to ensure there are no delays which could negatively impact the outcome of these injuries.
He enjoys what he does at work with the main reward being able to assist with relieving people’s pain and restoring them to normal function and the activities they enjoy.
He is fascinated with how the human body works and feels lucky that his job allows him to combine helping people with exploring the intricacies of human biomechanics when it comes to how the hip, knee and shoulder joints function.
Outside of work, you will often find him out surfing, cycling, or enjoying activities with his family.
Dr Maclean has consulting suites and operating sessions at both Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital, at Birtinya and Noosa Hospital in Noosaville. He also continues to contribute to the public system, consulting and operating one day a week at Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
