Dr Frank Connon is an orthopaedic surgeon with a focus on hip and knee surgery with extensive Australian and International experience. Dr Connon is experienced at performing Direct Anterior Approach Hip Replacement and Knee Replacement using Patient Specific Instrumentation and Robotics. He is the invited author of a book chapter on Surgical Approaches to the Hip.

After completing his Australian training, Dr Connon was awarded the prestigious Commonwealth Fellowship to undertake a year of further specialist training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London, UK. Working at this internationally renowned centre of orthopaedic excellence gave Dr Connon a wealth of experience in performing the most complex Hip and Knee Replacements using the latest techniques. Extensive training in the Direct Anterior Approach to Hip Replacement in London and other centres of excellence in Sydney, France and the US has given Dr Connon particular expertise with this technique.

Dr Connon’s expertise in hip surgery led to him being invited to write the book chapter discussing the relative merits of the different hip approaches for a leading medical publisher. Based on the latest research he has laid out in that chapter, Dr Connon will generally recommend the Direct Anterior Approach for most primary (“first-time”) Total Hip replacements but will sometimes recommend a posterior approach, usually for complex revision (“re-do”) procedures. Dr Connon is always happy to take all the necessary time to talk to patients about the available options.

A particular passion for Dr Connon is the recent developments in Knee Replacement to improve the speed and comfort of rehabilitation and he utilises numerous modern techniques including patient specific instrumentation, kinematic alignment and other methods to reduce patient pain and restore function. Dr Connon is able to advise you on all the latest non-operative and minimally invasive treatment options for knee pain including exercises, injections and arthroscopic (‘keyhole”) surgery to get you back to enjoying an active lifestyle.

Great importance is placed on spending time with his patients so that Dr Connon can offer surgical solutions tailored to their lifestyle and discuss each patient’s options in a caring manner. This helps him to deliver each patient the best possible recovery and long-term outcomes for their individual circumstances.
