Dr Simon Hawkins

Dr Simon Hawkins is a Specialist General Physician who commenced practice at Noosa Hospital in September 2012. He has extended clinical training and diverse experience covering a wide range of chronic illnesses, as he has worked in rural far north Queensland where access to subspecialists is very limited.

Dr Hawkins has an interest in patients with common Endocrine problems such as Type 2 Diabetes and Thyroid disorders; Cardiovascular Disease and heart Failure; Neurological issues such as Headache, Parkinson's Disease and Epilepsy. He looks after sufferers of chronic respiratory and rheumatological diseases and has in interest in complex patients who will often have many active problems. The investigation and diagnosis of undifferentiated illness is another area of interest.

Simon is included on the hospital's admitting physician roster for both public and private patients. He is experienced in caring for patients presenting with a wide range of acute medical problems requiring hospitalisation for investigation and treatment. Simon also conducts private outpatient clinics on a regular basis to cater for patients requiring specialist ambulatory care. 

Dr Hawkins graduated from Adelaide University Medical School in 1996 and underwent basic physician training at Royal Adelaide Hospital. After initially embarking on advanced training in Respiratory Medicine, Simon realised that he preferred the more varied practice of a general physician and moved to Cairns Base Hospital in 2002 to undertake advanced training in general medicine. He has been the sole physician in Innisfail, just south of Cairns, since completing his specialist training.

Simon relocated to Noosa with his family and they enjoy the Sunshine Coast lifestyle. Dr Hawkins pursues his passion for fishing in his spare time.
