Noosa Hospital specialist Wilfrid Newman

Dr Wilfrid Newman

MBChB, MMed (Internal Med), MRCP (UK), FRACP, MCSANZ

Wilfrid (Wilf) Newman is a Specialist General Physician with an interest in Cardiology who joined Noosa Hospital in February 2012.

Previously appointed to the post of Specialist Physician (Cardiology) at Mackay Base hospital from 2006 to 2012, Dr Newman helped set up a Cardiac Services Unit at the hospital in Mackay, which was undergoing a metamorphosis from a smaller regional hospital to a larger and more independent centre. His interest for enhancement of cardiac care to the Noosa community and especially the elderly population, could be maintained by the provision of an echocardiography, ambulatory ECG and blood pressure and stress-testing service at Noosa Hospital.

Wilf graduated MB ChB in 1982 in South Africa. 5 years in Accident and Emergency, Anaesthetics and Family Medicine were followed by formal training in Internal Medicine, and a period as Registrar in Medicine in the UK. Wilf worked in his own private practice as Consultant Physician in Pretoria for 9 years, before relocating to Australia in 2004.

At Noosa Hospital, Wilf appreciates the need for comprehensive care of patients, often elderly, who usually have complex disease presentation. He is able to draw on his broad experience base to help him in this regard.

Wilf supports the Ramsay Vision of providing high quality outcomes for patients, in a caring and progressive way.
