Noosa Hospital to celebrate 10 year anniversary

Aug 27, 2009

Staff and past patients will gather for a very special celebration on Tuesday (September 1) as Noosa Hospital marks ten years of providing healthcare services for the northern Sunshine Coast community.

More than 40 employees who have been with the hospital since it opened in 1999 will be awarded for their long service at an official ceremony to take place at the hospital on Tuesday.

Current Director of Clinical Services Jane Peeters was one of the hospital’s first employees, taking on the role of managing the Emergency Medical Centre and Renal Dialysis Unit.

“The hospital currently employs over 400 staff. It really is telling that one in ten of these employees began working in the hospital when it opened in 1999,” Ms Peeters said.

“I think our high level of staff retention is due to the supportive and professional working environment we’ve created here at the hospital - not to mention the fact we live and work in a beautiful part of the world!” she said.

Since opening in 1999 Noosa Hospital has cared for over a quarter of a million patients which works out to be the equivalent of the entire population of the Sunshine Coast. During that time, hospital staff have saved countless lives and performed over 60,000 operations.

Hospital CEO James Thiedeman said the opening of the Intensive Care Unit back in 2004 was a major milestone in the hospital’s growth.

“Opening our ICU allowed Noosa Hospital to offer a much higher level of care to patients living on the north end of the Sunshine Coast,” Mr Thiedeman said.

“The unit enables us to carry out more complex operations so patients who previously would have had to travel to Nambour or Brisbane for surgery, are now able to receive treatment closer to home,” he said.

On the average day Noosa Hospital will admit 60 patients, treat 40 patients in its Emergency Medical Centre, undertake 25 operations, prepare more than 700 meals and process over 5,000 clinical documents.

Run by Ramsay Health Care, Australia’s largest and most respected private hospital operator, Noosa Hospital is a 92 bed facility that has a unique agreement with the Queensland Government to offer services to public patients as well as those with private health insurance.
