New Respiratory Clinic and Lung Rehabilitation Program Launched at Noosa Hospital

Apr 13, 2026

Patients on the Sunshine Coast now have access to enhanced respiratory care with the commencement of a new Respiratory Outpatient Clinic and Rehabilitation Program at Noosa Hospital.

Led by experienced respiratory specialist, Professor Amy Rigby, the clinic is equipped with a state-of-the-art lung function testing system, including a Body Plethysmograph, enabling comprehensive and advanced assessment of lung health.

“The new service is designed to support patients living with chronic lung conditions by improving their physical capacity, confidence, and overall quality of life,” Professor Rigby said.

In addition to the outpatient clinic, Professor Rigby will oversee an innovative Respiratory Day Rehabilitation Program based at Noosa Hospital Allied Health. This new service is designed to support patients living with chronic lung conditions by improving their physical capacity, confidence, and overall quality of life.

Participants will engage in supervised gym-based exercise sessions, alongside education, relaxation strategies, and breathing techniques. The program is delivered by a multidisciplinary team of allied health professionals, ensuring a well-rounded and supportive experience.

“Having access to specialised respiratory services locally means people in the Noosa community can receive high-quality, comprehensive care without needing to travel far from home. It’s about empowering people to breathe easier and stay active within their own community.”

Patients who may benefit from the program include those living with chronic respiratory conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, lung cancer, post-surgical recovery, and COVID-19-related lung complications.

In a further enhancement to respiratory care services, ICON Noosa, in partnership with Noosa Hospital Allied Health, is also introducing a dedicated Lung Stream for patients undergoing radiation therapy for lung cancer. This initiative will provide patients with access to a tailored package of allied health services integrated into their treatment plan.

Site Manager at Icon Cancer Centre Noosa, Sharyn Campbell, said all Icon breast, prostate, and head and neck cancer patients already benefit from the centre’s collaboration with Noosa Hospital Allied Health, and extending the program to include lung cancer patients is a natural next step that builds on the model’s success.

“The program aims to improve symptom management, supports rehabilitation, and addresses patients’ physical, nutritional, and psychosocial needs throughout treatment,” Ms Campbell said.

These new services reflect a strong commitment to improving respiratory health outcomes across the region, offering patients access to high-quality, coordinated, and patient-centred care close to home.
