Community supports new buggy at Noosa Hospital

Dec 20, 2021

Noosa Hospital has welcomed a patient transport buggy, thanks to local Lions Clubs and local business Gregson & Weight fundraising to donate a brand new buggy.

Tewantin Noosa Lions Club Past President Michael O’Brien and Noosa Heads Lions Club President John Emmerson handed over the buggy to the Hospital team on Wednesday 8 December.

Hospital CEO Justin Greenwell acknowledged John Milland, a long-serving member of the the Hospital’s Community Advisory Committee, as the driving force behind getting a buggy back at the Hospital. The service has been missed after the last long-serving buggy broke down and then volunteer services took a break during Covid restrictions.

John – who volunteered to drive the Hospital’s previous buggy for years – said the service helped many people, particularly those coming to the Hospital for rehabilitation.

He said patients were so pleased to have someone pick them up from the end carpark – and they’d told him it makes their day.

Hospital CEO Justin thanked all those locals who give of their time to enrich not only the local community but also their local hospital – helping support convenient access to quality health care, close to home.

The plan is for the buggy service to be run by volunteers in 2022, as part of a new Buggy and Concierge Service. Volunteers will drive the new patient buggy between the carparks and Hospital entrance, greet patients and visitors as they arrive, open doors for patients alighting from vehicles, provide directions – and be a dependable, friendly face.

Patients will be able to call a phone number signed in the carpark to request a complimentary buggy pick up, whenever volunteers are available.
